Mineral oil is a petroleum based finish that goes through a refining process to make it suitable for indirect food contact. It is odorless, tasteless, clear as water, and at the very least (nevermind the very most), it meets all of the requirements from the USA's FDA.
We know that some of our customers can become concerned about anything that has petroleum as a base, but there are very few finishes out there that have the proper characteristics to make it suitable for indirect food contact. It has been the opinion of SFBB that mineral oil is a better solution than no solution.
